Grace Baptist Church, Zomba, Malawi November 2009 News Update By Percy C.
Looking Four Months Back The past four months seem to have flown away as on the wings of the wind. It feels like yesterday when in August I was privileged to take with me five Malawian brethren from Grace Baptist Church to the Reformed Conference in Lusaka Zambia. We came back challenged with the need to balance our church activities between evangelizing the lost and edifying believers if we are to be fully obedient to the Great Commission.
The month of September was my annual leave. My wife and I were able to take two weeks away from our mission station to visit relatives back home at the lake of Malawi and to see a little more of Malawi. It was quite refreshing for both of us. October and November were rather unsettling for us. My landlord died early this year. While he was alive one of his sons was responsible for collecting rentals, but he never shared the money with any of his relatives. After their father's death, his siblings wanted to take over the house and gave us notice to vacate by the end of October. So we spent the whole of October in search for a house to rent. By God's mercy we managed to find a house on the last day of October in the area where the church plot is. The new house is more expensive than the one we have left and it needed a few renovations before we could move in. We finally shifted to the new house by the middle of November.

Hello to you brothers.
Thanks again for your prayers. It is always encouraging to know that there are people out there laboring in prayer for us over here.
1. The church building construction work is progressing well. Currently at lintel level. How we hope that we will be able to celebrate 1st January 2010 in it. Already it has proved to be a center of disbursing the gospel to the workers on the ground. Additionally, quite a number of the construction crew join us for service every Sunday. Do pray for their souls.
2. I have just finished preaching through Zechariah and I want to thank God for leading me faithfully through this book. Pray that its effect will last a long time in the hearts and ears of the hearers
3. The University ministry resumed this month after a long time of semester break. We thank God for a few first year students who have joined the study group. They replaced the fourth year students who finished in May. Pray for conversions. Pray that our recruitment drive for more to attend will be blessed of the Lord and bring these students within the ear shot of the gospel.

The apostle Paul's words to the Galatians in chapter five verse one have been of much encouragement: "It is for freedom that Christ has set you free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."
Congregation: We continue to see much of the Lord's goodness upon us. Sunday worship services are well attended such that the Marquee (Tent of meeting) is fairly full. The children's Sunday school work is most encouraging. Many children come. Helida and Irene R. faithfully teach these children Sunday by Sunday. Please pray for the following people who we have been discussing church membership with: Hirene, Queenvel, Simon, Charles and his wife Maureen, Henry, and Cynthia (who is the wife of church member Wilfred). The others are Alphonce and his wife Edith. Terry, the wife of church member Wence, claims salvation from 2003 but finds it ever so hard to expressly articulate her faith. Terry's case is not unique; so many people would hold that they are saved but you can be engaged in talking with them about their salvation for as long as thirty minutes without them naming the name of Jesus Christ! We, therefore, make it our serious duty to press the interviewee until we get deliberate, conscious and intelligent confession of Christ Jesus. By this we do not mean that one must be theologically intelligent. We want to see that a person knows and relies on Christ and His finished work on the cross alone as the way of salvation. We are yet to talk with Vincent and Peter. There are also newcomers to the church meetings from a nearby Students' Hostel. We are so thankful to God for enabling us to minister to all these.

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love the God, to those who are called according to His purposes."
These words of the apostle Paul are a fitting summary of how the Lord has dealt with us as a family and church until now. We have often stopped and marvelled, "Can the Lord be so good?!" We would like to first of all ask forgiveness for having taken so long before sending out our regular Prayer Letters. For those who regularly look forward to receiving and praying for us, we are very sorry for this long delay. We think we are just about back to routine of things!
UK Trip: Naphtally and Tim managed to secure their UK Visas well in time. They were able to fly to UK on 21st August. They spent the first weekend with Hope Baptist Church in East Ham London. They then travelled to Bridgend and spent one week renewing fellowship with Brethren there and shopping for Tim's College needs. 5 years ago we stayed as a family in Bridgend while Naphtally studied at Bryntirion (WEST). On 1st September, both travelled to Atlantic College in Llantwit Major, South Wales, which is about 9 Miles from Bridgend. It is an international college offering a two year International Baccalaureate (IB), which is a competitive University qualification. There are 350 students from over 70 different countries around the world. We are thankful to the Lord that Tim has quickly settled and thoroughly enjoying his studies and life at the College. Tim is also well cared for spiritually by our former church in Bridgend called "Freeschool Court Evangelical Church." He plans to write regular updates while at college. If you would like to receive these for your continued prayers please do let us know. Naphtally took the remaining time to visit some churches where he preached and gave reports of the work in Eldoret. It is sadly regretted that due to time constraint he was not able to visit all the churches who have close interest in the work. We send our genuine apologies for this.

PETAUKE GRACE REFORMED BAPTIST CHURCH Fortnightly Prayer Request
I greet you in the wonderful name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and believe that the almighty God has been gracious to you. Brethren, last fortnight I was attending the family conference in Lusaka from 24th to 28th August. The conference, whose theme was "The Whole Life under the Whole Scripture," was challenging. Five members from our church attended the conference.
Prayer Requests
- Thank God for the favour and travelling mercies upon us during the conference.
- Thank God also for our hosts Mr and Mrs Mendamenda and the warm fellowship they extended to us during our stay in Lusaka.
- Pray that I will be able to share the truth learnt at the conference with the church.
- Pray for our evangelistic ministry which is bearing fruit.
- Thank God for enabling us acquire a Toyota hilux van. Pray that we would use it for the extension of his kingdom.
Lovemore B. Missionary Pastor |
